So, on Black Friday I might've gone a little overboard.
After finding a few good deals I decided to go ahead and upgrade my audio equipment game with a new laptop loaded with Serato.
I was geeked about the possibilities of finally being able to "spin" the digital files I've been collecting over the years. I mean, I have several thousand tracks that I can now actively manipulate as opposed to just passively listen to. How cool is that? (Music nerds understand where I'm coming from)
But low and behold, the process of migrating my files has been the biggest technical nightmare I've faced in the 25 years I've been used computers.
Complete f--kery.
To keep from getting too caught up in my own glass-case of emotion, I'll just say that the old iTunes file protection was some of the dumbest isht ever created.
But in order to play around with tunes like this one, I'm going to have to endure a little more labor and a few more late nights with red eyes.
I'm hoping it'll be worth it...

and this is why I:
1. don't eff with Serato.
2. don't eff with Apple or Windows.
Besides, this level 42 joint can be had for about 3 dollars on 12".
With respect to iTunes...I have to say, it is the worst piece of software ever inflicted on folks in the digital age. If you are looking for something to arrange your mp3's nice and neat, check out Amorok. I use it on my Ubuntu box, and love it. There is also Banshee, Songbird, and a bunch of other things that do the same thing, and are far less invasive.
I've thought about doing the hybrid thing...as I've alot of private press and rare stuff on mp3. but somehow, I feel this is unnatural...wrong. Though it is VERY tempting. So I will passively listen to those files, while I continue my search out in the shops and on the 'nets. good luck on setting up your Serato!
My big beef with iTunes is when i clicked on "Get Album Artwork"
Lord, DON'T EVER DO THIS.
Almost half my songs, even songs I downloaded straight from the iTunes store itself, are all wrong now.
When I listen to Miles Davis, I am confronted with Katy Perry artwork. Wanna hear that new track off the Tron soundtrack? Sure, go ahead, but you'll be looking at the cover of DMX's debut.
It's quite jarring (and while it may sound cool and post-modern in theory - it just plain sucks).
@ Blacktain
I have to admit, it was weird. After a while, though, it started to feel "natural". Still, vinyl sound can't be beat. I'm just trying to avoid getting on that "Hoarders" show, so hopefully going digital can help with that.
@ Diallo.
I concur. My Masters at Work box set is not K-Pop karaoke. But according to iTunes, it is.
And why can't I get the cover art for "3 Feet High and Rising"?
