BET's DJ Competition

This show looks pretty hilarious/promising/cringe-worthy.

Hosted by Just Blaze and Kid Capri, it looks like someone finally did a DJ reality show (been about time).

I know some of these cats (Vikter DOES spin lots of Erykah Badu at gigs), so I'm sure the truth is going to come out on a lot of these cats.

Question: Is it weird they have famous DJs in a reality show like this, instead of DJs on a come-up?

Regardless, set the TiVo's. This should be fun.

We're having some viewing parties around DC, so I'll be checking it but, yeah, my thoughts exactly. Having established folks on this show is a little odd. All of them have different strengths and they excel in environs condusive to those strengths. If the show has them spinning different genres than they typically do, that would be great and be a test of their skills.

I'm interested to see how Kid Capri judges. I know he's a legend and all but I've haven't heard a sparkling review from anyone who's heard one of his sets. Now if DJ Spinna was the host, I would be overly enthusiastic about this. Kid Capri, meh.

And while we're on the subject, does anyone check this site, Stuff DJ's Hate?

I know one ATL cat that's on this show... but I dont know how much people other than DJs or people close to DJs will "get" this show.

Id much rather see a show that follows 1 DJ, his life, and his experiences. of course, by episode 3 when the 30th person comes up to the DJ booth to request lady gaga, Id have to turn it off. My Post Traumatic Stress and all...

How is this an entertaining show? How?

I don't know about you, or about most Americans and Nielsen families in general, but I'm a DJ and a music fan.

So to me, this show looks great.

I agree. Do a show where they follow Diplo or DJ Vice or even DJ Cassidy.

Or my man Thee Mike B or Steve Aoki.

Or Samantha Ronson.

Someone who does it at the highest level, for a living (hence Mark Ronson would no longer qualify).

The best show would follow a huge DJ (Tiesto or Paul Oakenfold) and a DJ on the make (nameless DJ) and compare their lives like that movie Babies

That Scratch documentary that came out a few years ago was exactly what I'm looking for in a TV show about DJs. It has to be sort of like what Beyond The Mat did for Pro Wrestling. Or how about a drama, similar to "The Wrestler" about DJ life? no, "Juice" does not count...

Okay, I didn't explain my befuddlement enough. I love music, and love a great DJ. But how is that supposed to work in a competition show? Too contrived, too cornball, not enough stuff that's relatable to the average viewer.

There are two kinds of music shows that work. There is the competition show as the new variety show; ie AMERICAN IDOL and DANCING WITH THE STARS.

And there is sitcom or soap opera about the life (but not the music) of a music artist, ie RUN'S HOUSE, GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS, KEYSHIA COLE: THE WAY IT IS.

I know this show wants to be catagory #1 but I'm not buying it.

Y'all seem to be saying it would have a better shot at catagory two, but that's based on how interesting their personality and life is, not their DJ skills.
