I think this is an amazing segment.
George Lopez sends off his guests' DNA to a lab and reveals to them their exact genetic racial breakdown.
I would love to know mine. And my relatives'. And Bashir's, and Craig's, and DJThePoet's, Jacarl's, Jennifer's, LAchicpic's....

So, should I lick a stamp or.....
I would love to take this test. Especially b/c it's more common than not for people to ask me "what are you?" or "are you part______?"
I seem to mystify a good bit of the pop. Some language lessons & make up & I could be a spy ^_-
Genetic Racial makeup, based on what? I'm not a fan of these kinds of tests. This is just another way to cause divisions among people. once people "know" what they are, others who are not easily start becoming dismissive. This has been scientifically proven countless times.
@ blacktain
i think the tests are more funny than actually useful
and honestly, for a lot of people who probably think they are "white", it could be really revealing
i think the more we know, the mroe we realize most of us have a lot of racial diversity in our blood/families
instead of increasing divides, i think it bridges them
@diallo I can see where you are coming from, but I am less than confident in human nature. Humans tend to separate, and become "purist" based on the most trivial of things. Remember the kids who beat up red haired students at the school recently..simply because they had red hair? I just dont think humanity has matured enough for this.
wasn't the film Gattica based on this?
O....K....everybody else went serious on this issue, so on that note I was told that my mother is Black & Italian/Irish/Dutch. And, Pops was Black/Cherokee. But, recent family conversations have thrown a wrench in the past machine and at this point...I have no idea. So, would I like to know...yes. Will I get the chance? Probably not...since I'm not speaking to family anymore for as long as it last.
Culture + Genes + Belief is the way it's always been. This tests just one part of it. If it's going to influence how you feel about yourself in a good way, no matter what you find out, go for it. But we're not separate species, for crying out loud. We all started in the same place, no matter how far we wandered.
That said, we're probably going to do it. I think the National Geographic sponsors one of those tests, the one we're likely to do because it talks about possible movement from place to place, instead of just saying regions (https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/lan/en/faqs_about.html#Q2), but check this out:
The data that is used to determine where a person is "from" is modern samples of modern people from indigenous populations. It's not a magic wand. So you get people who may have already traveled around, met other tribes, other cultures, other "races," and been thoroughly changed by the result. As we all have by our personal histories.
Glad Snoop took it the way he did, because I can see some folks being devastated by something that should be used to show us how we're all interconnected.
I'm also betting there'll be some scandal about this some years from how about some groups that used shoddy research to justify their conclusions about specific genomes.
Hate to deviate from the serious convo, but that skit was HILARIOUS!!! I need to start watching Lopez.
@ Anon
yeah, i just though the piece was funny, at the end of the day
and i do love my fellow man (pause) perhaps too much (haha)
I was adopted, I wouldnt mind taking that test.
Charles was silly as hell wearing the king get up...lol. One of these days I'll research my own inheritance.
