Last month during my trip to Chicago, my audiofile friend and I started a conversation about musical genres we just couldn't stand.
Q: What do you hate more--'80s pop rock or Hi-NRG?
A: Of course, Hi-NRG.
Q: Ok, what's your least favorite Hi-NRG track?
A: Who the f--k knows the name of a Hi-NRG song? I could hum one but I damn sure don't know the name of it.
And I dare you all to name a Hi-NRG song.
See. It's frickin' impossible.
After the futile attempt to name just one song from an entire genre the question changed to a simpler one:
What's one song you just can't stand?
Well, that's easy--
What's it about this sports bar staple that gets to me?
"Mamba".
I hate how they enunciate "mamba".
It's irked me since I was a kid and I don't know why.
The isht makes me want to slap the "Jefferson" out of the "Starship", but luckily they've already taken care of that.
So what song makes you want to shake the isht out of somebody?

It used to be "Oh What A Night" by Frankie Valli.
Also "You Sexy Thing (I Believe in Miracles)" by Hot Chocolate.
Not sure why in either case, but they used to crawl under my skin.
It's yo fault, man!
Not that I have the vitriol that you do fo the song, but I really didn't deserve to be forced to watch that video just to see how exactly did they say Mamba!
It's yo fault, man!
That said...the song that still pisses me off is V Ice - Ice Ice Baby. If I'm at a bar and it's played on the jukebox, I go right up and play Under Pressure right behind it...even if I have to cough the extra credit to "Play Now".
Diallo, have you seen The Full Monty? It's a good movie and it takes the edge off the song. Let's you think about the good movie as oppose to some guy singing with his nuts in vice grips.
BTW, I am more disturbed by the enunciation of mamba than how it's pronounced. Therefore, I edited the post.
"Underneath it all" by No Doubt makes my skin crawl. Actually, almost anything by No Doubt does.
ps-Happy Birthday B and D, hope you're enjoying your festivities from your various locations throughout the world!
That was a really high quality audio track :)
I can't agree with the sentiment, so I'll leave it at that, except to say if there's anything I don't like in this song, it's the way have no pause between "roll" and "built." Maybe it wasn't possible, but it's jarring.
"Dubstep" or just about any of those horrible forms of hip hop abominations that sometimes escape the British underground.
Oh, and I want you to know that I am pissed off for you putting "We Built this City" in my head all day. Damn!
@ Tony
If you're pissed at me, imagine how I feel. I'm mad as hell at me.
@diallo i agree on that Hot Chocolate song, however, they have many other songs in their catalog which are fantastic!
@tony I also have a strong dislike for Dubstep...but the kiddies love it.
I've always hated "Come on Ilene". this is the quinessential frat house party song, and for that, I have an intense hatred for the song. There was also some RnB song back in the 90's from H-Town.. "Emotions Makes You Cry Sometimes". yeah. fuck that song. Good way to get the Blacktain to go into a berzerker rage.
