Michael is gone.
After the dust settles, there'll be an accounting of the man and his work. As time passes, his work, I think, will overshadow his life...particularly the later part of his life. The darker parts he could no longer hide with his celebrity.
Still, I will say that, before our current media saturation...there was a time when a musical event could DOMINATE the planet. It will never happen again. There's too much media and too many sources of entertainment. But there was a time when everyone on the planet was watching the same song.
I remember that time.
I remember that song.
It was Thriller.
I attended a private Muslim school until 6th grade. Very conservative...yet Thriller was so HUGE, they gathered the students on a Friday afternoon, and showed it in the auditorium.
I'll never forget that.
Your work is finally done, Mike.
Rest well.
(ed. note: diallo - This was the first song that came to mind when I heard)

R.I.P.
R.I.P.urgatory. I don't care how great of a musician he was or how many artists he launched or influenced or even how his father treated him, what he did with children outweighs it all.
I too remember seeing Thriller the first time it was shown at a party with friends that was being held just for the showing. Great song.
Instead of being remembered alongside the great artists who used their money and influence to improve humanity, his legend will always be associated with pedophilia and the ability of the wealthy to pay their way out of prosecution.
If Satan is a father, Michael is in for some dancing corpses with great rhythm going medieval on his ass.
RIP Michael Jackson
Such a bittersweet moment.
We have lost a musical legend, but at long last our nation's children are safe.
Never convicted there Paul...
Not defending him...more the process, especially re: celebrities 'cause I don't know who those parents were but there is no money you could pay me for molesting my kids.
That said...
At 41, I have literally grown up watching Michael Jackson. In the great high school wars of '83-'85 between the Wearers of the One Glove and the Rude Boyz, I had my share of buttons with various Prince related symbols.
But, Michael remains the King of Pop.
Now if you'll excuse me I'm on my way to the bar to drop $10 in the jukebox, play all MJ, smoke a Fuente and do a shot of Jack (or three) for Michael Jackson.
I remeber being in 6th grade when thriller premiered. The next day all we could talk about was how scary it was ( to 6th graders at least).
Man...it really just feels weird...having grown up with his music...
You'd be hard pressed to find another black man so loved by the world for so long...
R.I.P.
@DC
Obama for the win
I learned about this story from Twitter...from Olivia Munn of all people. anyhow, I too was influenced by Michael Jackson..we all were. there is not one person (of any race) that will ever be as popular, famous or loved as he was. The world is a better place because of his musical contributions to humanity, and his starting USA for Africa. that said, I do not care for the things he was doing during his "dark age" near the end. but, its not for me to judge. I suspect he's being judged by his makers, as we all will be eventually.
but, something of interest:
when Kurt Cobain died, people went nuts. no one ever talked shit about him being an addict, or about the fact that he took the coward's route. yet, when MJ dies, everyone piles on. bottom line is, both contributed much to music, memories and humanity at large. let's try to remember that.
Also, to steal a point from the guys' co-worker, ?uestlove, no one said anything about Elvis when he died, either.
"aint never heard a peep about elvis as a 24 yr old dating a 14 yr old priscilla, or his drug problems or anything but him being a treasure."
Nor was anything said about Elvis being an outright thief of black culture and music.
Oftentimes the art does live on past the artist. That should happen here.
man. my feelings are so complex.
this is a truly global event. maybe only 10 ppl living will see this kind of coverage in death. Mike was one of the 10 most famous people on the planet.
All things considered (and that's a lot to consider) I love Mike. I always will. Hagiographies aside, the man was a part of my childhood, and a part of my cultural fabric in a way that perhaps no other celebrity was. I love the guy for what he meant to me.
Issues aside, the man was one of the three greatest performers who ever lived. His body of artistic work will never be touched.
But really, did we expect him to be a 75 year old man someday?
What he was accused of doing was wrong. There's no excuse for that behavior. Clearly was a man whose own childhood shaped his adult life for the worse.
I do hope that someday, maybe 5, 10 years from now, the man will be remembered more for the art than the oddities. And we did lose that in the last 15 years. But hopefully we get that back.
The end of the day, the guy was the defining musical talent of our lifetimes. We should just appreciate the music and appreciate the talent, and be happy that we were here to witness it.
Do one knows if he is really and truly guilty of what he is accused of, I honestly don't think he did it. He was on trial for being "weird" in my opinion, but I do know one thing: his music did more good than any harm he could be convicted of.
RIP Michael Jackson
I wish his children well and hope that they aspire to be as great as he was in his prime.
Definitely a sad day.
All this reminds me I need to go back to my parent's home and make sure that Jackson 5 45rpm of "Big Boy" is still in tact.
I'm listening to "Human Nature" right now and reminded of how much I love that song.
True. There will never be another album like Thriller. And with that said, I hope every young cat in the music game who's about to drop an album stops saying it's gonna be classic before it even hits the shelves. You can't make a classic album. It has to grow into one.
RIP Michael. For those who would immediately send him to purgatory, make sure you also send those parents who willingly sent their young children to visit him even after allegations started surfacing. We'll never know what really happened, but we do know the man was a freakin genius and that's the part I choose to focus on now.
Remember when Michael Jackson videos would premier in primetime? Who else has done that?
Let me say something controversial.
We can all suspect that Michael had some unhealthy relationships with children.
But I, for one, have never thought he was having sex with or molesting kids.
If someone wants to point me in the direction of hard facts and evidence, fine. Do it.
But when everyone thinks they can know what happen just because he was weirdo, it makes me mad.
So I don't pretend to know. And I'm not even disparaging those who choose to say they do.
But I kind of want people to stop pretending like child molestation is a given here, backed up with the evidence of "come on, you know he was..."
Dangerous was the first CompactDisc I ever owned.
A bit late in on this but I don't even know what to say. I still can't believe Michael's dead and in the end it's the same sad story we've seen time and again. A star falls hard and is left with a bunch of hanger-ons and parasites who are so focused on leeching the last of said stars declining fortune that they don't mind doping them up with pain killers and other over the counter drugs. And the doctors who prescribe this stuff are nothing more than pushers. Same shit happened to Elvis(only he was a no talent, racist copycat.) Anna Nicole and Britney (eventhough her family was smart enough to step in). If Michael's been hopped up on pain killers for the past 24 years since the Pepsi accident then that explains a hell of a lot.
Of course, anyone with almost half a billion in debt and the proper resources could easily fake their own death and that totally fits his m.o. But that's just wishful thinking on my part.
Tell 'em Diallo!!!
Just like I was saying about O.J...

Hello
generic meridia
Some doctors recommend Meridia with other stimulants or antidepressants, but that is only when Meridia is not generating the weight loss being desired.

It is normally accompanied with a low calorie diet.
