Obama-rama Begins

Here in the District, the inauguration proceedings are already beginning. The Obama girls start at Sidwell Friends on Monday and locals are being warned about epic congestion due to the increased number of visitors for January 20th's festivities.

Dear Tom and Tina Tourist,
Thanks for the clusterf--k.

Sincerely,
The Residents of the District of Columbia

If there's an upside to any of this, it has to be parties. For the past few weeks, I've been getting emails galore for state balls and random parties trying to capitalize on the Obama name and the fact that it's essentially a 4-day weekend (just because Obama will be president doesn't mean we can forget MLK). I predicted more "urban"-themed celebrations would be going on back in August, but it's now come to fruition.

As expected, Jay-Z will be holding a party at the previously discussed Love. But the most interesting piece of information that could've ever come out of these soirees is the revealing of the President-elect's favorite DJ...

I bet he didn't vote for Shirley Chisholm this time around.

This begs to ask: If you were about to be president, who would DJ/perform at your inaugural celebration?

Top 3:

Kanye West: "Champion"
Jay-Z "And The Winner Is.."
Wu-Tang Clan: It'd just be awesome.

Hmm..

If i were president, I'd have access to all of the scientific/military industrial complex...as such, I'd use such power to bring back Ron Hardy & Larry Levan from the grave...I'd also revert the old Hot 5 at 5 DJ's from WBMX from the 80's back to thier youth, using stolen alien tech from area 51.

:)

but, in all actuality, I'd have the following as my top 3:

1. Theo Parrish - one of Detroit's Finest DJs/ Producers and member of the 3 Chairs. His sets always make crowds "feel good". always dirty, and always funky...they way it should be.

2. The Wizard, Jeff Mills - yet another Detroiter with legendary skills on the decks.

3. DJ Harvey/Mark Seven/Daniele Baldelli/Mozart/Rubens - Dj's with tons of records no one has, but they always manage to put together tight, interesting sets. collectively, these guys share over 100 years of dj experience.

I only know mixtape DJs, so DJ Break or DJ Silva Surfa (his blends were phenomenal).

Diallo will get the nod on this one.

Anybody in Chicago know where I can expand my horizons.

I'd pay to have the Pharcyde come through, completely reunited with all four original members, and have them do "If I Were President" for three hours straight

Very easy: Public Enemy!

As far general artist performances:
1. The Roots
2. D'Angelo (voodoo tour era)
3. Isley Brothers (presidential pardon)
4. Yo-Yo Ma (he plays for all the presidents and at sometime)

I already mentioned reuniting Ten City, so I guess I'll have to invite them.

?uestlove would make my short list along with DJ Spinna or Louie Vega.

Dammit, I think I'd just have a "Wonder-full" party with Stevie there.
