Here's the little sketch that could.
Simple enough concept, born from a chance encounter with the ACTUAL National Black Republican Association's website.
You can visit them here: http://www.nationalblackrepublicans.com/
Once you stumble across a site like that, its really all about the execution of the sketch.
On CNN, Fox, and all the round-table talk shows, we would see various black representatives of the Republican Party saying things like "let's make the parties fight for the black vote." Which sounds a little like Luke Skywalker saying "Aren't we being a little too hard on the Sith?"
While making this piece, someone pointed out that it was actually Democrats (the Dixiecrats to be specific) who attacked the demonstrators of the Civil Rights Movement. We don't deny this. But we'd also point out that most of those people and the generation that came after them are, or have become, Republicans.
After all, party platforms change and shift over time, even as the real battle, between progressives and conservatives, is on-going.
Ultimately, the party labels and political issues of today may look rather dated and unfamiliar just decades (not to mention centuries) from now.
And so, long live the Yeoman Farmer!
PS - Thanks to Will Ferrell yet again. This is another sketch of ours he "picked" for Funny Or Die. We appreciated the love.

Lol...oxymoronic indeed...
Ill...the real website made me vomit a little...but after listening to their audio advertisement clips I understand why this was made. lol.
Another great sketch from The Message. I do wonder where all of these black republican pundits come from. It reminds me of the dinner you guys held with all the ones you had heard of.
I loved this sketch.
Yes, the Dixiecrats were opposed to Civil Rights, but in the sixties, Civil Rights became a part of the Democratic Party's platform. I think LBJ was responsible for that change. When that happened, a lot of old Dixiecrats switched over to the Republican party.
Could not agree more Raquel.
LBJ is the reason the Dems write off the South to this day.
And with the switch from Dixiecrat to Republican you saw Black Republicans, particularly those in the South, leave that party. I know that's what happened in my family.
I have a friend I want to show this to but she'll likely hate me afterward. Oh well...
@ jacarl:
If she hates, then let her hate - then watch the money pile up.
Everything I learned, I learned from hip hop.
Speaking of hip hop, we WILL be posting about the Kanye West versus 50 Cent "Who Will Sell the Most" War coming up on Sept. 11th.
That is a posting day you don't want to miss.
Can't wait for the Kanye vs. 50 video. I've been waiting for someone to clown on Kanye for a while.
But on another note: while I loved this sketch, I must admit that it's a little off kilter. The guys you see running the www.nationalblackrepublicans.com's of the world are a bit extreme (and yes, deserve to be clowned). But there's a case to be made for Black Republicanism... or rather, Republicans who happen to be black.
Dare I say... I'm one of them ::ducks::
Yes, in this current climate (and thanks to the current administration) it's hard to be ANY type of Republican. But when you strip away all of the neo-con bullshit, there's plenty of reasons why more blacks (granted, not ALL) black should vote Republican.
In fact, I wrote something down about it a couple years ago. </shameless_plug>
Yes, I should note that I wrote that before Katrina. And I should also note that I voted against Bush twice. But my main point remains the same: the central tenets of Republicanism should resonate with the growing conservative African American sector.
In fact, I'm surprised that with the messages found in 'Make It Burn', 'Race Flag', 'Black Cinema Review' and others... that the creators of The Message aren't closer to the Black Republican side of the fence.
::ducks::
(bashir staggers to his feet having been knocked down...eyes bleary, voice shaky"
Bashir: "Willaims...no. Say it ain't so. SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!
(Bashir collapses)
FYI...
My aformentioned black female Republican friend watched this video and enjoyed it. She did mention something about it drawing on real life, though. Hmm...
